Polyes of the Colon


Abstract
Clinical observation was made on 21 cases of patients with polipoid lesions of the colon seen at Chonnam University from January 1956 to June 1966. ¢¥Simple adenomatous polyps were most frequent (47.670- Sex incidence of male to female was 2.5 to 1 and peak age incidence was lying in 4th to 6th decade and lowest in 2nd decade.
Eighty per cent of all cases was found in recto~igmeid region. Chief symptoms were bleeding (65. 7%), abdominal pain (38.0%) and changes in bowel habits (28.5%).
Regarding to size of polyps, less than 1cm. in diameter, it revealed benign lesion, and more than lem., malignant one histologoically.
Diagnosis were made by sigmoidoscopy (80.076) and barium enema(61. 5 f/ ). Sigmoidoscopic polypectomy was done in the majority of patients (66.7%) and laparotomy was performed in, the cases of massive bleeding, intussuscetion and colloid adenocarcinoma.
Sigmoidoscopic polypectomy was complicated postoperative mild bleeding (50.0%) which ceased spontaneously, whereas in laparatomy, with dehiscence, anastomotic leakage and wound infection.
